Make a significant impact in patient care within a Critical Illness and Rehab setting, utilizing advanced clinical skills as a Registered Respiratory Therapist. This contract opportunity involves meaningful collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, supporting patients requiring intensive respiratory interventions and safe transport within medical guidelines. You’ll play a vital role in patient recovery through expert evaluation, treatment planning, and education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver physician-prescribed respiratory care, utilizing both invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment and devices for oxygen and aerosol therapy, humidification, and medication administration.
- Provide chest physiotherapy and perform respiratory suctioning (oropharyngeal, nasal, tracheal).
- Complete oximetry and capnography monitoring, and routine chest x-ray reviews to guide further clinical intervention.
- Conduct 12-lead EKGs, recognize basic arrhythmias, and perform pulmonary function tests (NIF, VC, etc.).
- Assist with procedures such as bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomy, and chest tube placement.
- Perform tracheostomy care, including insertion and removal of trach tubes in both emergent and non-emergent situations.
- Execute arterial punctures, monitor ventilation efficacy, and report results promptly.
- Support laboratory testing policies, including specimen handling, equipment usage, documentation, and quality control if working in moderate complexity labs.
- Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation in accordance with BLS and ACLS standards.
- Set up, maintain, and monitor mechanical ventilators, ensuring equipment functionality and reporting maintenance needs.
- Document care and patient responses accurately and communicate effectively with physicians and during shift handoffs.
- Ensure proper respiratory therapy charging, including accurate data entry and correction.
Qualifications:
- Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.
- Current BLS and ACLS certification required.
- Previous experience in critical illness, rehab, or acute care settings strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with ventilatory and respiratory support equipment and related therapies.
