Step into a pivotal role supporting students and school staff as a dedicated behavior specialist for the upcoming school year. This full-time contract opportunity (37.5 hours weekly) offers the chance to utilize and refine your expertise in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) within a collaborative educational environment serving elementary, middle, and high school levels in the Wilmington, DE area.

As a Building Support Specialist (BSS), you’ll function in a dynamic position—akin to a BCBA assistant or apprentice—providing vital building-level guidance and support. This is not a direct care role, but rather one focused on empowering educators through intervention planning, consultation, and staff development.

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Psychology, Education, Special Education, Applied Behavior Analysis, or a closely related field
  • Strong applied knowledge of ABA principles and best practices
  • Delaware Department of Education Instructional Paraprofessional Permit required
  • Experience with K-12 behavioral students in special education is highly advantageous
  • Capable of working independently and managing diverse responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with school psychologists in designing behavioral interventions and strategies for students
  • Provide training, consultation, and model evidence-based behavior strategies for classroom staff
  • Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and develop robust Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)
  • Employ data-driven approaches to assessment, intervention, and progress monitoring
  • Attend IEP meetings and consult with parents, psychologists, and BCBAs
  • Deliver crisis support to students when needed
