Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Current teaching certification with Adaptive Physical Education endorsement or equivalent
- Experience working in a K-12 setting, especially with students with physical, cognitive, or developmental challenges
- Strong understanding of individualized education plans (IEPs) and ability to implement modifications/adaptations
- Excellent communication skills for collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, students, and families
- Organizational skills to track progress and document student achievements
- Creativity and enthusiasm for developing engaging, customized physical activities
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement adaptive physical education curriculum tailored to student abilities, in alignment with IEP goals
- Assess student needs, set achievable objectives, and monitor progress throughout the school year
- Provide direct instruction individually and in small groups, adapting activities for a variety of skill levels
- Collaborate closely with classroom teachers, occupational/physical therapists, and other school specialists
- Maintain accurate documentation and participate in IEP meetings as needed
- Foster a safe, supportive, and positive environment that encourages student participation and confidence
- Serve as an advocate for adaptive physical education within the school community
