Adaptive Physical Education Teacher (APE) in Andover, MN

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

• Current teaching certification with Adaptive Physical Education endorsement or equivalent
• Experience working in a K-12 setting, especially with students with physical, cognitive, or developmental challenges
• Strong understanding of individualized education plans (IEPs) and ability to implement modifications/adaptations
• Excellent communication skills for collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, students, and families
• Organizational skills to track progress and document student achievements
• Creativity and enthusiasm for developing engaging, customized physical activities

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement adaptive physical education curriculum tailored to student abilities, in alignment with IEP goals
• Assess student needs, set achievable objectives, and monitor progress throughout the school year
• Provide direct instruction individually and in small groups, adapting activities for a variety of skill levels
• Collaborate closely with classroom teachers, occupational/physical therapists, and other school specialists
• Maintain accurate documentation and participate in IEP meetings as needed
• Foster a safe, supportive, and positive environment that encourages student participation and confidence
• Serve as an advocate for adaptive physical education within the school community
