Make a meaningful difference by supporting students as an Adaptive Physical Education (APE) Teacher in a vibrant, diverse school community near Long Beach, CA. This full-time contract opportunity begins ASAP and is scheduled through February, with the potential for extension. You'll work with K-12th grade students, maintaining a manageable caseload of approximately 10-15, allowing for truly individualized instruction and meaningful relationships.

Desired Experience and Qualifications:

  • California APE teaching credential or eligibility required
  • Experience providing adaptive physical education in school settings, preferably across K-12th grades
  • Proficient in developing, implementing, and modifying APE curricula to meet diverse student needs
  • Ability to write thorough, legally defensible assessments and comprehensive educational reports
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Enthusiasm for creating inclusive, engaging, and supportive learning environments
  • Commitment to fostering student independence and confidence

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and teach adaptive physical education lessons tailored to each student’s unique abilities and goals
  • Conduct assessments and develop IEP goals ensuring compliance with all legal and educational standards
  • Collaborate with other educators, therapists, and administrators to support holistic student development
  • Track progress and communicate regularly with families regarding student achievement and needs
  • Stay current with best practices in adaptive physical education, participating in ongoing professional development as needed
