Adaptive Physical Education Teacher (APE) in New Orleans, LA

Make a positive difference in student lives by supporting adaptive physical education across several school locations near New Orleans! This full-time contract role focuses on delivering essential Adaptive Physical Education services to students with diverse needs. As an itinerant educator, you’ll split time between 2-3 schools, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to foster inclusivity and physical development.

What We’re Looking For:

• Minimum credential: Physical Education teaching license, with preference for Adaptive Physical Education certification
• Reliable transportation to travel between assigned school sites
• Ability and willingness to serve East or West Bank locations, as assigned
• Flexibility and strong organizational skills; comfortable adapting to changing caseloads and site needs
• Experience planning and implementing individualized adaptive PE programs for students aged elementary through high school a plus
• Must successfully complete the district’s drug screening and fingerprinting process

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide adaptive physical education services according to each student’s individualized education plan (IEP)
• Develop, adapt, and implement tailored lesson plans to address students’ unique physical and developmental abilities
• Collaborate closely with educators, therapists, and families to support student progress and safety
• Track and document student performance, attendance, and progress on goals
• Interface clearly and positively with staff and parents across multiple school settings

This contract begins as soon as possible and runs through May 22, 2026, with full-time hours totaling 35 hours per week. Part-time applicants are also encouraged to apply, provided they can accommodate a 3-day per week, 7-hour workday schedule (with planning periods and a 30-minute lunch).
