Adaptive Physical Education Teacher (APE) in Oakland, CA

A contract opportunity is available for a dedicated Adaptive Physical Education Teacher to serve as an itinerant specialist for the 2026-2027 school year. This full-time position is based entirely on-site and welcomes educators who thrive on supporting diverse learners, foster inclusive practices, and bring passion to their teaching.

Key Qualifications:

• Valid California teaching credential with authorization for Adaptive Physical Education (APE)
• Demonstrated success supporting students with diverse learning needs, preferably in a school setting
• Strong knowledge of adaptive PE strategies and compliance with IEP implementation
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with multidisciplinary teams, families, and administrators
• Experience in developing, modifying, and leading individualized physical education programs
• Proficiency in maintaining accurate documentation and assessments
• Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver adaptive physical education services to students across multiple school sites as needed
• Assess student abilities and develop customized lesson plans aligned with IEPs and school guidelines
• Collaborate with special and general education staff, as well as families, to ensure successful access to physical education
• Monitor student progress, adjust interventions as necessary, and provide updates to support teams
• Participate in IEP team meetings, provide expert recommendations, and contribute to program planning
• Ensure compliance with all district, state, and federal requirements concerning adaptive PE

This contract position begins August 11, 2026 and runs through June 4, 2027, for a total of 184 days at 35 hours per week. Compensation for this opportunity is $63 to $67 per hour.
