Step into a fulfilling role supporting K-12 students as a Recreational Therapist in an onsite, full-time contract position based near Albuquerque, NM. This exciting itinerant opportunity allows you to work across multiple school sites, making a positive impact on approximately 35 students as you travel within the district. The assignment runs from August 1, 2025, through May 22, 2026, with a steady Monday through Friday schedule from 8:00am to 3:30pm.

Key Qualifications and Experience:

  • Current New Mexico Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification required. For more details, refer to NM State Office of Personnel's guidelines for Recreational Therapy.
  • Experience in educational or school-based settings working as a counselor, behavior specialist, or recreational therapist strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success supporting students with autism, ADHD, developmental delays, or other disabilities.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to travel to multiple schools within the district.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate group games that help students with autism enhance their social skills.
  • Use structured physical activities to help students with ADHD channel energy productively.
  • Adapt sports and recreational opportunities for students with developmental delays to improve gross motor skills.
  • Teach students with disabilities to access community resources and encourage their community participation.
  • Provide guidance to students coping with stress, anxiety, or depression through evidence-based relaxation and coping strategies.
