Key Qualifications:

• Hold a Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
• Successfully completed a state-approved Counselor Preparation Program
• Eligible for appropriate licensure and/or endorsement as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and local school board
• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with students, families, and colleagues
• Commitment to confidentiality, ethical conduct, and professional integrity

Primary Responsibilities:

• Advise and counsel students on academic, career, and social/emotional concerns
• Assess student and program needs; plan effective use of materials and resources for student support
• Employ a variety of assessment methods to set, monitor, and support student goal achievement
• Evaluate student progress and provide timely, specific feedback; maintain accurate records
• Offer mediation services for student conflicts, collaborating with administration as needed
• Coordinate with teachers and staff to facilitate smooth student transitions between school levels
• Consult with families and school personnel on matters impacting students’ well-being and success
• Assist in referrals for specialized support, working closely with the administration and psychologist
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and motivating environment for all students
• Participate in curriculum development, committees, and student activities as requested
• Report concerns related to child safety or wellbeing promptly to administration
• Maintain state/national licensure and pursue ongoing professional development
