Key Responsibilities:

• Offer student guidance on academic, social, and career development
• Assess individual, group, and program needs; develop and monitor student learning goals
• Deliver mediation for student conflicts and contribute to a supportive, motivational environment
• Collaborate with teachers, fellow counselors, administration, and families to foster student success
• Prepare students for key educational transitions, such as moving from middle to high school
• Maintain confidential records, submit timely evaluative feedback, and ensure student progress is closely tracked
• Consult with parents, educators, and administrators on educational and personal matters affecting students
• Assist in referring students for specialized services as needed
• Demonstrate professionalism and integrity in all interactions; maintain up-to-date licensure and professional skills
• Participate in curriculum development, committees, and student activities as requested
• Report any concerns regarding child welfare to the appropriate administrative authorities

Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution
• Completion of a state-approved Counselor Preparation Program
• Eligibility to obtain required licensure and/or endorsement(s) in Virginia
