Step into an impactful role supporting K-12 students as a Recreational Therapist, where you'll empower young learners across multiple school sites with your expertise and compassionate approach. This full-time, onsite contract (August 1, 2025 – May 22, 2026) offers the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of approximately 35 students with diverse needs. As an itinerant specialist, you’ll travel within the district, collaborating with dedicated teams Monday through Friday, 8am–3:30pm.
What you’ll bring:
- Current NM CTRS Certification (see full requirements here)
- Demonstrated experience or background in school counseling, behavioral support, or therapeutic recreation
- A deep understanding of interventions for students with autism, ADHD, developmental delays, and behavioral/emotional challenges
- Strong communication skills, the ability to adapt activities, and a positive, creative mindset
- Flexibility to travel across multiple campuses within the district
Your daily impact:
- Facilitate group games and activities to boost social skills for students with autism
- Structure physical activities to help students with ADHD regulate energy and attention
- Design and introduce adapted sports that develop gross motor skills for those with developmental delays
- Assist students in accessing and participating in community recreation, enhancing integration and independence
- Teach relaxation techniques and coping strategies to support students facing stress, anxiety, or depression
