Step into a vital role supporting students’ academic, social, and emotional growth at a vibrant elementary school, working 37.5 hours per week on a full-time contract. You’ll be a key member of the counseling team, guiding students through challenges and transitions, and ensuring a supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise and counsel students on academic, career, and social/emotional issues using individualized and group sessions.
  • Assess needs, plan interventions, and select appropriate resources to address student concerns.
  • Employ varied assessment tools to set and monitor student learning goals, supporting overall achievement.
  • Evaluate student progress, giving prompt, constructive feedback and maintaining accurate records.
  • Facilitate mediation services for conflict resolution between students, involving administration as needed.
  • Collaborate with teachers, fellow counselors, and administrators to support student transitions from middle to high school.
  • Consult with parents, teachers, and administrators regarding academic and personal matters impacting students.
  • Initiate referrals for specialized services in partnership with building administrators and psychologists.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with staff, families, and community partners to benefit a diverse student body.
  • Uphold confidentiality and model professionalism, ethical conduct, and integrity at all times.
  • Create an inclusive environment that encourages engagement, motivation, and positive social interaction.
  • Participate in curriculum development, committees, and student activities as assigned.
  • Report concerns related to child endangerment, neglect, or abuse promptly to administrators.
  • Maintain appropriate licensure and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional growth.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Completion of a state-approved Counselor Preparation Program.
  • Ability to obtain necessary Virginia licensure and endorsements as required.
