Key Qualifications:

  • Valid certification or licensure to teach students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
  • Demonstrated experience working as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist or Teacher
  • Strong knowledge of various communication methods, including American Sign Language and total communication approaches
  • Proficiency in developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to student needs
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate with general education staff, families, and service providers
  • Commitment to fostering inclusion and advocating for students’ language access and participation

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction and specialized support to students with varying degrees of hearing loss
  • Assess student progress, develop appropriate goals, and adjust instruction as needed
  • Consult with teachers and staff to ensure classroom strategies align with best practices for Deaf and Hard of Hearing learners
  • Collaborate with families to promote engagement and ensure continuity of support between school and home
  • Utilize and train others in the use of assistive listening devices and other technology
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including progress reports and required paperwork for student records
