Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) - Charlottesville, Virginia

Step into a role supporting students as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist, working in a school environment near Charlottesville, VA. Qualifications:

• Certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing, or equivalent credentials
• Experience working with children who are deaf or hard of hearing in educational settings
• Proficient in various communication methods, including American Sign Language (ASL), Signed English, or other accommodations
• Strong ability to adapt lesson plans and teaching techniques to support auditory and communication needs
• Team player with excellent communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills
• Commitment to fostering a supportive, inclusive learning environment for all students

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct instruction and specialized support for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
• Assess students’ needs and develop individualized education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with other professionals
• Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt classroom environments and materials
• Consult with staff and families about effective strategies and goals for student success
• Offer resources and support about hearing technology, interpreting services, and classroom accommodations
• Monitor student progress and document academic and communication development
