Make a meaningful impact by supporting students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in a school environment near Chicago, IL. This contract position is perfect for specialists dedicated to fostering accessible and engaging learning experiences. You’ll play a crucial role throughout the regular academic year and into the Extended School Year (ESY), ensuring each student’s unique communication needs are met.

Key Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing or relevant specialized credential
  • Experience working with elementary and/or secondary students with hearing differences
  • Strong knowledge of assistive hearing technologies and best educational practices
  • Skilled in direct instruction, consultation, and collaboration with school staff
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver a minimum of 100 minutes per week of direct instruction to students during the school year
  • Provide 180 minutes per month of consultative services to support teachers, staff, and families
  • Conduct Extended School Year (ESY) hearing itinerant services from June 15, 2026, to July 24, 2026 (Monday–Friday), including 100 minutes weekly of direct support and 75 minutes monthly consultation
  • Adapt curriculum and instruction to meet individual student IEPs and maximize participation
  • Consult regularly with education teams to develop and implement effective strategies
  • Advocate for student needs in school-based meetings and ensure all legal requirements are met
