Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher (DHH) in Des Plaines, IL

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

• Valid teaching certification as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist or endorsement in the field
• Demonstrated expertise in specialized instructional techniques for deaf and hard of hearing students
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or other communication modalities used in deaf education
• Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with staff, families, and support teams
• Experience in developing and implementing IEPs tailored to individual student needs
• Familiarity with assistive technology and accommodations for DHH learners

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver engaging, differentiated instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, adapting lessons to meet unique learning styles
• Collaborate with general education teachers to support accessibility and inclusion in classroom settings
• Assess student progress and provide regular updates to parents and stakeholders
• Develop effective communication strategies with students, using ASL and/or other preferred methods
• Participate in IEP meetings, serve as a liaison, and advocate for appropriate services
• Foster a positive, empowering learning environment that supports academic, social, and emotional growth
