A contract opportunity is available for a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher to cover a maternity leave assignment in a school setting located in Elgin, IL. This specialized role involves providing tailored educational support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring they receive an equitable and accessible learning experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) focused on the academic and social needs of deaf and hard of hearing students.
  • Utilize specialized teaching strategies and communication methods, including sign language, to facilitate student engagement and comprehension.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, speech therapists, audiologists, and families to promote student success.
  • Monitor and document student progress, adapting instructional methods as needed.
  • Provide advocacy and support to empower students within the school environment.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Certification or licensure in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education.
  • Experience teaching deaf and hard of hearing students in K-12 settings.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and other communication modalities.
  • Strong knowledge of auditory and language development.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and families.
