Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) - Gordonsville, VA

A rewarding opportunity is available for experienced professionals with expertise as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) Specialist or Teacher. This contract role focuses on supporting students in the greater Charlottesville, VA area, serving nearby schools and districts. You’ll make a meaningful impact by facilitating communication, learning, and inclusion for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Qualifications/Desired Experience:

• Current certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) or equivalent
• Experience developing and adapting curriculum for deaf/hard of hearing students
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Ability to collaborate with educational teams and families to support student success
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Familiarity with IEP development, progress monitoring, and documentation preferred
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive and accessible educational environment

Responsibilities:

• Deliver specialized instruction and support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, individually or in small groups
• Assess students’ needs and progress, adapting strategies to ensure accessible learning experiences
• Consult regularly with teachers, staff, and families to promote accommodations and best practices
• Participate in IEP meetings, contributing subject-matter expertise and advocacy
• Support schools in implementing assistive technology and communication supports as needed
• Provide guidance and training to staff on deaf/hard of hearing student needs and effective classroom strategies
