As a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist, you’ll play a key role in providing specialized instruction, advocacy, and support for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid teaching certification with a Deaf / Hard of Hearing or similar endorsement
- Experience working with students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, preferably in a school setting
- Strong understanding of assistive technologies and accommodations related to hearing impairments
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or Signed English is highly desirable
- Ability to develop and modify Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with students, families, and fellow educators
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and consultation services to students with hearing impairments
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to adapt curriculum and ensure student access to content
- Offer training and resources on hearing loss issues, assistive devices, and communication strategies
- Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs to ensure compliance and progress
- Work with families to support students’ educational journeys and connect them with resources
- Advocate for student needs within the school and coordinate services with other professionals
