Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) - Melrose Park, Illinois

Key Qualifications:

• Professional experience as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist or Teacher for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing
• Ability to effectively communicate with students who are deaf or hard of hearing using various tools and methods
• Current teaching certification for Deaf/Hard of Hearing (where required)
• Knowledge of assessment and intervention strategies for students with hearing loss
• Exceptional interpersonal and collaboration skills for working with students, staff, and families

Primary Responsibilities:

• Provide direct instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, 20 hours per week
• Adapt curriculum materials to meet each student’s communication needs and learning style
• Assess student progress and develop individualized education plans (IEPs)
• Advocate for accommodations and support in general education settings
• Work alongside teachers and staff to provide resources and guidance on best practices
• Communicate regularly with families, keeping them informed on student progress and strategies for support
