Teacher of the Deaf | Norfolk, Virginia

Make a real impact supporting students as a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist in a welcoming and collaborative district center near Norfolk, VA. This contract position offers a manageable caseload of only eight K-5th grade students, allowing you to create meaningful, individualized support plans and truly connect with each child. You’ll work in a focused environment where your expertise and dedication are valued, with an assignment running from ASAP through June 16, 2026.

In this full-time role (35 hours per week), you’ll earn between $40 and $50 per hour while building strong relationships with students, families, and educational staff to ensure every child receives the support needed to thrive academically and socially.

Desired Qualifications:

• Valid specialist or teacher certification related to Deaf/Hard of Hearing services
• Prior experience with K-5th grade age group preferred
• Proficiency in sign language and/or other communication modalities used with DHH students
• Ability to collaborate with teachers, support staff, and families
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Experience developing and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide direct and consultative services to a small group of students
• Develop and adapt educational materials based on individual hearing needs
• Advocate for student access to instruction and accommodate learning environments
• Facilitate communication between students, peers, and staff
• Monitor and document progress, updating goals as necessary
• Offer training or support to teachers and parents where needed
