Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) - Oakland, Mississippi

Make a difference for elementary students while advancing your career as an American Sign Language (ASL) instructor and Deaf/Hard of Hearing specialist. A contract opportunity is available for the 2026-2027 school year, supporting a young learner eager to connect and grow their communication skills. This part-time position begins at 10 hours per week and has the potential to expand to full-time as the ASL program develops and enrollment increases.

Your focus will be one-on-one instruction with an elementary student, fostering language development and providing meaningful support. You'll have the rewarding chance to build foundations for lifelong learning and belonging.

Qualifications/Desired Experience:

• State credentials to teach Deaf/Hard of Hearing students and/or American Sign Language at the elementary level
• Experience delivering ASL instruction (schools or relevant settings preferred)
• Proficiency in American Sign Language
• Commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive classroom environment
• Strong interpersonal skills to communicate with students and collaborate with staff and families

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan and deliver engaging ASL lessons tailored to the abilities and needs of your student(s)
• Employ best practices for Deaf/Hard of Hearing education
• Collaborate with IEP teams and contribute to student progress monitoring
• Foster student confidence, communication, and participation in school life
• Adapt instruction for varied and evolving caseloads as the program grows
