What you’ll need to succeed:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or related field
  • Valid state certification or endorsement in Deaf / Hard of Hearing education (or eligibility)
  • Experience working with school-aged children who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Familiarity with assistive technology, classroom accommodations, and individualized education programs (IEPs)
  • Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication modalities used by deaf or hard of hearing students
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement tailored lesson plans and instructional activities for students with hearing impairments
  • Assess students’ needs and work within IEP teams to design and update individualized education programs
  • Advise and collaborate with general education staff on accommodations and best practices
  • Provide direct services and support students both in individual and small group settings
  • Educate and advocate within the school community to foster inclusivity and awareness
  • Monitor student progress, maintain records, and participate in IEP meetings
