Make a difference working as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist in a contract assignment supporting students in the greater Charlottesville area. In this rewarding opportunity, your expertise will help ensure that children with hearing loss thrive in an educational setting, with access to quality instruction and individualized support.

Your role will focus on collaborating with educators, families, and students to design and implement effective learning strategies tailored to each student’s unique communication and academic needs.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Certification as a Teacher for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing or Specialist, meeting state and federal requirements
  • Experience working with school-age children who are Deaf or hard of hearing
  • Proficiency in sign language and other alternative communication methods
  • Strong skills in IEP development, progress monitoring, and educational assessment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
  • Adaptability and enthusiasm for working in a collaborative school environment

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction and support to students with hearing loss, individually or in small groups
  • Conduct assessments to determine students’ needs and regularly track their academic growth
  • Develop and implement IEP goals in partnership with multidisciplinary teams and families
  • Advise teachers and support staff on best practices for accommodating students with hearing differences
  • Foster self-advocacy, communication, and independence in students
  • Attend meetings, trainings, and consultations as required by the school
