Key Qualifications & Experience:
- Current certification in Deaf/Hard of Hearing Education, or ability to obtain appropriate credentials
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL), both expressive and receptive
- Experience teaching or supporting deaf and hard of hearing students at the elementary level
- Understanding of IEP processes, student documentation, and accommodation strategies
- Strong communication and collaborative skills for working with multidisciplinary educational teams
- Resourceful and compassionate approach to individualized instruction
Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality ASL instruction tailored to the language and academic needs of an elementary student
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and support staff to integrate ASL and accessibility strategies
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate educational records
- Provide recommendations to improve learning outcomes and promote inclusion
- Adapt curricula and teaching methods based on student ability and response
- Participate in IEP meetings and communicate with families regarding goals and progress
This part-time role begins with 10 hours per week, with the possibility of increasing to a full-time assignment as the ASL program develops over the school year. You’ll have the opportunity to shape the program and help foster a welcoming, accessible learning environment for students.
