Key Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist or Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing.
  • Experience working in school settings, utilizing appropriate communication and instructional strategies for DHH students.
  • Strong understanding of IEP processes and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or other communication methods used within DHH education.
  • Skilled in adapting curriculum and instructional materials for diverse learning needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a caring, advocacy-focused demeanor.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support students with hearing loss by developing and implementing tailored instructional strategies.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, school staff, and families to increase inclusion and access to curriculum.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, providing expert input and assessment data to inform student plans.
  • Advocate for students’ needs and serve as a resource for assistive technology, accommodation, and communication access.
  • Deliver direct instruction and consultative support, ensuring students can fully participate in both academic and extracurricular activities.
  • Stay current with best practices and legal requirements in the field of Deaf/Hard of Hearing education.
