This contract opportunity, situated near Tutwiler, MS, focuses on providing specialized instruction to support deaf and hard of hearing students at the elementary level. Begin part-time with 10 hours per week, and enjoy the potential for increased hours as student enrollment in the ASL program grows throughout the academic year.

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Certification or relevant credentialing in Deaf/Hard of Hearing education or American Sign Language instruction
  • Demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language
  • Previous experience working with elementary-aged students, particularly those who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Strong understanding of individualized education plans (IEPs) and ability to adapt lessons accordingly
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other teachers, support staff, and parents
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive classroom environment

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging, age-appropriate ASL lessons to a caseload of one student initially
  • Assess student progress and adjust teaching strategies to meet individual needs
  • Work closely with school staff and families to help integrate deaf and hard of hearing students into the broader educational community
  • Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to IEP meetings, providing insights into student growth
  • Stay current with best practices in deaf education and ASL instruction
