Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Certification or licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI)
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience in school environments, especially at the high school level, preferred
- Familiarity with IEPs and adapting interpretation style to individual student needs
- Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to student confidentiality and advocacy
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into ASL and vice versa for one or two high school students
- Collaborate with educators, staff, and families to ensure students’ communication needs are met
- Adapt interpretations to various classroom settings, lectures, group projects, and extracurricular activities
- Support students’ full participation in discussions, assignments, and school events
- Maintain accurate documentation, contribute to team meetings, and support individual education plan goals
