Educational Interpreter in Fairfield, ME

Qualifications and Experience:

• Hold one of Maine’s accepted certifications: Certified Interpreter, Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI), Conditional Interpreter, or Conditional Deaf Interpreter.
• Demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language (ASL).
• Experience interpreting in classroom settings preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to adapt interpretation style to various subjects and educational settings.
• Professional, reliable, and compassionate approach.

Your Responsibilities:

• Attend all classes with the assigned 9th-grade student.
• Interpret spoken content and class discussions into ASL as lessons occur.
• Facilitate communication between the student and teachers, staff, and peers as needed.
• Support classroom engagement and access, ensuring the student’s equal participation.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
• Collaborate as needed with teachers and support staff regarding educational materials and accommodations.
