A contract opportunity is available for a skilled professional experienced as both an Interpreter and a Braillist. You’ll play a vital role in facilitating access to curriculum for a full-time Braille student, using your knowledge of Braille transcription and assistive technology. This role provides an excellent chance to impact student success in an inclusive school environment near Fort Worth, TX.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Proficiency in Braille transcription, with a keen understanding of formatting and tactile standards
- Experience working as a Braillist or Interpreter within a school setting strongly preferred
- Familiarity with Rogue Embosser technology, specifically with 11.5 x 11 paper
- Demonstrated ability with Google Docs and cloud-based document sharing
- Excellent organizational skills — able to prepare coursework at least two weeks in advance
- Respectful communication, collaborative mindset, and commitment to student confidentiality and educational best practices
Responsibilities:
- Converting worksheets, tests, spelling lists, and classroom materials to Braille using school-provided services and embossing equipment
- Ensuring all Brailled materials are accurately formatted and accessible to meet academic deadlines
- Coordinating with educators to maintain a schedule that keeps the student’s resources two weeks ahead
- Troubleshooting and maintaining the Rogue Embosser as needed
- Communicating progress and addressing any unique needs related to Braille materials for the student
- Facilitating communication and understanding between the student and school staff when necessary
