The focus of this position is working with Braille materials for one student, supporting all document conversion needs. You’ll handle worksheets, spelling tests, and other curriculum items, utilizing digital tools to convert classroom materials into Braille format. Experience with embossing equipment, specifically a Rogue Embosser using 11.5 x 11 paper, is highly desired. Forward planning is key—the school aims to have Braille content prepared two weeks in advance, ensuring the student has equal access alongside peers.

Key Qualifications:

  • Background as a Braillist and/or Interpreter in an educational environment.
  • Proficiency with Braille conversion technology and embossing equipment.
  • Comfortable working independently and collaborating with educators.
  • High attention to detail and efficiency with managing sensitive timelines.
  • Familiarity with Google Docs and digital workflow for document sharing.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Convert instructional materials (e.g., worksheets, tests) into Braille and upload files to Google Docs.
  • Operate the Rogue Embosser to produce tactile materials.
  • Stay proactive, maintaining a two-week lead on assigned work.
  • Coordinate and communicate regularly with teaching staff to anticipate upcoming needs.
  • Ensure the accuracy and quality of all translated Braille documents.
