Bring your expertise as an Interpreter and Braillist to an educational team dedicated to empowering students who are blind or visually impaired. You’ll work closely with students, educators, and support staff, ensuring students’ educational needs are met to foster independence and academic achievement. Your specialized skills will be a valued resource as you facilitate a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proficiency in interpreting for students who are blind or visually impaired, using appropriate communication methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to transcribe and produce educational materials in Braille, including textbooks, assignments, and classroom handouts.
  • Previous experience supporting students in a school or educational setting strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of various Braille codes (e.g., Nemeth, Unified English Braille).
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, and specialists.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in dynamic environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transcribe instructional materials and classroom resources into accessible Braille formats.
  • Interpret spoken language and classroom instruction for students, facilitating clear communication.
  • Support teachers by adapting educational materials and assignments as needed.
  • Assist students in developing literacy and communication skills through the use of Braille and adaptive tools.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all school and district policies regarding student privacy and support services.
  • Contribute to annual education planning and meetings when appropriate.
