Make a difference in the lives of visually impaired students by providing crucial support and resources as a Braillist and Interpreter. This contract position focuses on assisting 2nd-grade students, including one full-time Braille student at a single campus and multiple students needing large print materials at a nearby location. There is the possibility to streamline the role to one site if needed, providing flexibility for the right candidate.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with educators and the Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to ensure students have timely access to grade-level materials. Your expertise and quick turnaround on adapting content will keep instructional delivery ahead of schedule and support ongoing learning and independence for your students.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Proficiency in Braille transcription and large print material production
- Experience as a Braillist or Interpreter in a school setting preferred
- Ability to work quickly and stay 1-2 weeks ahead of curriculum schedules
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent time management
- Collaborative, reliable, and able to communicate effectively with education teams
- Familiarity with Rogue Embosser, Duxbury Software, HMH Reading/Math, and STEM programs is a plus
Key Responsibilities:
- Transcribe instructional materials into Braille or large print, ensuring accuracy and timely availability
- Coordinate with TVI and classroom staff to anticipate and prepare upcoming assignments
- Support students’ access to academic content, adapting according to individualized needs
- Maintain and troubleshoot equipment/software for producing accessible materials
- Balance needs across two locations (within a short commute), or as a consolidated assignment if arranged
