School Interpreter - Oakland, ME

Step into a rewarding contract role supporting students and making a direct impact on educational access as an ASL Interpreter. This full-time assignment runs from ASAP through the end of the school year, offering you the opportunity to accompany and empower a 9th-grade student in their daily classes.

As the dedicated interpreter, you’ll provide real-time American Sign Language interpretation, ensuring the student has equal access to lessons, discussions, and classroom interactions. Working closely with educators and staff, you’ll help facilitate communication and foster an inclusive learning environment.

Desired Qualifications:

• Hold or be eligible for one of Maine’s required school interpreter credentials: Certified Interpreter, Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI), Conditional Interpreter, or Conditional Deaf Interpreter
• Demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language
• Previous experience interpreting in educational settings is highly valued
• Commitment to confidentiality and ethical standards
• Excellent interpersonal, listening, and communication abilities
• Adaptability to meet changing classroom needs and lesson formats

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide accurate live interpretation for a 9th-grade student throughout their school day
• Translate spoken content, instructions, and student interactions into ASL
• Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and families to meet student needs
• Foster a supportive environment that encourages student participation and confidence
• Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all school settings
