Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven experience as an Educational Interpreter in a school environment
  • Expertise in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with various interpreting modes and techniques
  • Credentials or certification as an Interpreter for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing required
  • Experience collaborating with Teachers of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to adapt interpreting style to meet individual student needs
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate clear and effective communication between students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing and their peers, teachers, and staff
  • Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, school events, and activities
  • Support classroom teachers and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure appropriate accommodations
  • Assist in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and contribute to student progress monitoring
  • Serve as a language and cultural resource for students and staff
  • Maintain accurate records of interpreting assignments and student interactions
