Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with demonstrated interpreting skills
- Experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in an educational or school setting
- Knowledge of confidentiality and ethical standards for interpreters
- Ability to adapt interpreting styles to meet student and teacher needs
- Certification from recognized interpreting bodies (RID, BEI, or equivalent) preferred
- Strong interpersonal and organizational abilities
- Flexibility to work with students of various age groups and learning styles
Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate, unbiased interpretation services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
- Facilitate communication between students, instructional staff, and peers
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, assemblies, and extracurricular activities
- Support students in accessing curriculum and participating in school life
- Maintain detailed and confidential records as required
- Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and other professionals to support individualized education plans
- Participate in team meetings and professional development when appropriate
