An exciting contract opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support a 9th-grade student in a dynamic educational environment, starting as soon as possible and continuing through the end of the school year. This assignment requires a dedicated professional who is passionate about fostering inclusion and bridging communication gaps. As the interpreter, you will attend classes alongside the student, accurately conveying both spoken and signed communication to ensure understanding and participation in all lesson activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Current Maine certification as a Certified Interpreter, Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI), Conditional Interpreter, or Conditional Deaf Interpreter (as required by the state for school settings)
• Proficiency and fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Experience interpreting in educational settings, ideally at the high school level
• Professionalism, reliability, and a commitment to confidentiality
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with students, educators, and support staff

Key Responsibilities:

• Interpret all spoken and signed communication during classroom activities, lessons, and school functions for a 9th-grade student
• Act as a communication bridge between the student and teachers, peers, and school personnel
• Adapt interpreting techniques as needed to suit changing educational content and student needs
• Support inclusion and active participation in academic and social aspects of school life
