Make an impact in educational accessibility as a skilled Interpreter and Braillist supporting a student who is a full Braille user. This contract opportunity is located near Weatherford, TX, and offers the chance to collaborate with innovative professionals dedicated to inclusive learning.

In this role, you'll play a key part in creating accessible materials and ensuring the student maintains full participation in classroom activities. The district currently utilizes a service that converts educational documents (such as worksheets and spelling tests) into Braille, delivered via Google Docs. You will work closely with teachers and staff to coordinate the timely preparation of Braille materials—aiming to stay at least two weeks ahead of the student’s curriculum. Familiarity with Rogue Embosser technology and 11.5 x 11 Braille paper is highly desirable.

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Previous experience as a Braillist, Interpreter, or in a similar role supporting visually impaired students
  • Proficiency in Braille transcription (literary and/or Nemeth preferred)
  • Strong understanding of technology used for document conversion and Braille embossing
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple documents and timelines
  • Collaborative communication skills to coordinate with educators and support staff

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transcribe instructional materials into Braille and prepare them in advance
  • Work with the Rogue Embosser and manage Google Docs document delivery
  • Ensure the student receives accessible versions of all necessary classroom materials
  • Communicate proactively with teachers to anticipate needs and adjust timelines
  • Maintain documentation and records of materials created
