Grades 9 - 12 K-5 Life Skills Special Education Teacher - Alabaster, Alabama

Help students reach their potential by fostering essential life skills in an engaging school environment. This contract position offers the opportunity to work with a diverse range of grade levels (K through 12), supporting students in developing the tools they need for success both in and out of the classroom.

We’re seeking a dedicated Life Skills Teacher with experience across elementary, middle, and high school settings. Your ability to adapt curriculum and instructional approaches for varying developmental stages will make a direct impact on students’ independence, social growth, and academic achievement.

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

• State teaching certification, ideally with a background in special education or life skills instruction
• Previous experience working with students in grades K-5, 6-8, and/or 9-12
• Strong understanding of life skills curricula, IEPs, and positive behavioral supports
• Patient, creative, and adaptable approach to teaching diverse learners
• Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills for working with school staff, families, and support professionals

Daily Responsibilities:

• Plan and deliver engaging, individualized life skills lessons for assigned grade levels
• Adapt teaching strategies to accommodate students’ unique learning needs and goals
• Track and document student progress, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
• Contribute to student IEP development, meetings, and implementation
• Create a safe, supportive classroom atmosphere that promotes self-advocacy and confidence
• Communicate regularly with families, fostering positive relationships and progress updates
