Grades 9 - 12 Grades 6 - 8 Special Education Life Skills Teacher | Birmingham, Alabama

Make a difference in the lives of students by supporting their growth as a Life Skills Teacher for elementary, middle, and high school grades. Working in a supportive school environment on a contract basis, you'll have the chance to empower students from kindergarten through grade 12 with essential life and social skills, preparing them for success both in school and beyond.

What we’re seeking:

• Valid teaching certification appropriate to the grade level(s) and subject area
• Experience working with students in grades K-5, 6-8, and/or 9-12
• Knowledge of life and social skills curriculum, individualized learning plans, and IEPs
• Ability to adapt instructional strategies to meet a wide range of learning needs
• Strong collaboration skills and comfort working with multidisciplinary teams
• Effective communication with students, parents, and staff

Key responsibilities:

• Lead engaging, level-appropriate life skills lessons for assigned grade levels
• Support students in developing independence, self-advocacy, and interpersonal skills
• Collaborate with fellow teachers, counselors, and administrators to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
• Monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies as needed
• Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that fosters respect and responsibility
• Maintain accurate records and participate in team meetings related to student support
