This contract opportunity calls for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) who is passionate about working within an educational environment and eager to deliver dedicated support throughout the school day.
In this position, you’ll work closely with an inspiring, cognitively high-functioning student with paralysis, ensuring their safety and health needs are met with professionalism and compassion. The role requires commitment to a consistent weekday schedule—30 hours per week—with the added benefit of Wednesdays off, as the student does not attend school that day. Bus riding is an essential component, allowing you to accompany the student to and from school each day.
Desired Skills & Qualifications:
- Valid and current LPN license
- Certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse
- Previous experience supporting students or youth in an academic or pediatric setting preferred
- Proven experience with ventilator care (vent experience is essential)
- Comfortable riding the school bus with the student daily
- Compassionate approach toward individuals with complex medical needs
- High degree of professionalism and ability to work independently
- Strong communication skills to liaise with teachers, parents, and school personnel
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct 1:1 nursing care to a high school student throughout the school day
- Ensure safe transport by riding the bus with the student each day
- Administer medications, monitor vital signs, and manage ventilator needs
- Collaborate with school staff and the student’s family to ensure a seamless care plan
- Document care provided and report any changes in condition promptly
