Working in a supportive educational setting near Saint Charles, you’ll provide attentive one-to-one care for a student with Down Syndrome, managing both daily health routines and emergent needs.
This assignment emphasizes hands-on care, involving multiple g-tube feedings throughout the day, alongside diligent diabetic management. Your expertise with Blue Loop for monitoring blood glucose, as well as administering insulin and precise carbohydrate counting, will be central to the student’s well-being and success at school.
Key Qualifications:
- Current LPN/LVN licensure and CPR certification
- Experience in pediatric or school nursing, especially with g-tube management and diabetic care
- Knowledge of feeding protocols and insulin administration (carb counting expertise preferred)
- Sensitivity to the needs of children with developmental disabilities
- Calm, clear communicator with ability to collaborate with educational staff and families
Main Responsibilities:
- Oversee 1:1 care for a student, including around 8 daily g-tube feedings
- Monitor blood glucose utilizing Blue Loop technology
- Administer insulin and manage all aspects of diabetic care
- Accurately record interventions and health data
- Maintain a safe, encouraging, and respectful environment for learning and health
