Step into an impactful role supporting a middle school student as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for the upcoming academic year. Based near Williamsburg, VA, this contract position offers a meaningful opportunity to provide direct 1:1 care, ensuring student safety and well-being in a dynamic educational setting.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for accompanying the student throughout the school day, including during bus rides, from 7:30am to 3:30pm. Your clinical expertise will be put to use primarily monitoring for absence seizures, administering rescue medication (nasal spray), and delivering timely seizure care as needed. Daily health monitoring will also include routine blood pressure and temperature checks, with ongoing communication with school staff and families.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Active LPN/LVN license, with eligibility to practice in the state required.
- Previous experience in a school or pediatric setting highly preferred.
- Clinical skills in seizure management and administration of rescue medications.
- Ability to work independently and maintain detailed documentation.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with students, school personnel, and families.
- Experience in monitoring vital signs (blood pressure, temperature).
- Comfort and reliability in riding the school bus daily with the student.
Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 care, monitoring for absence seizures and responding as needed.
- Administer rescue medication (nasal spray) according to medical plan.
- Monitor and record blood pressure and temperature.
- Ensure student safety during bus transport and throughout school day.
- Maintain accurate, confidential health records and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team.
This is a contract assignment beginning August 24th and lasting through June 9th, aligning with the school calendar.
