Step into a rewarding contract role supporting a young student’s journey at a middle school near Hanover, PA. This unique part-time position focuses on assisting a male student in the Autistic Support Transition Program, providing both in-school coverage and community-based support as needed. Your role will include flexible scheduling—each week will vary between 2 to 4 days, dependent on the student’s needs and community schedule. Expect flexible start and end times, typically between 8:30am to 2:00pm.
Your primary responsibility will be to accompany and monitor the student during outings in the community, with a focus on seizure observation and readiness to administer emergency medication if needed. Within the school, you’ll work in collaboration with the building nurse, as routine medication and medical needs are handled internally. The student is largely independent and ambulatory, requiring motivational verbal prompts and supervision rather than hands-on assistance.
Desired Qualifications:
- Active Pennsylvania LPN or LVN license is required
- Previous experience in a school, educational, or pediatric environment preferred
- Comfort supporting students with autism and an understanding of verbal prompting techniques
- Confidence in monitoring and responding to seizure activity, including administering emergency medication
- Reliability and adaptability to a changing weekly schedule
- Strong communication skills and a compassionate disposition
