This opportunity is ideal for a certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) seeking a full-time assignment covering a leave beginning 8/31/2026. You’ll play a crucial part in empowering students with visual impairments to navigate their environments safely and independently.

Key Qualifications:

  • Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) required
  • Experience working within school settings strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of practices and techniques for orientation, mobility, and safe travel training
  • Excellent communication skills with students, staff, and families
  • Compassionate, patient, and committed to empowering students of diverse backgrounds and abilities

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assess students’ orientation and mobility needs through individualized evaluations
  • Develop and implement personalized instructional plans to enhance navigation and travel skills
  • Collaborate with teachers, special educators, and support staff to integrate O&M goals within students’ educational plans
  • Instruct students on the use of adaptive equipment, sensory development, and route planning
  • Advocate for accessibility and provide recommendations for environmental modifications as needed
  • Maintain detailed documentation and progress reports in compliance with school and state guidelines
  • Engage families and caregivers in supporting students’ mobility independence
