Desired Qualifications:
- Valid OMS or Orientation and Mobility Specialist certification
- Demonstrated experience working with students in an educational setting
- Comprehensive knowledge of mobility techniques, assistive technology, and individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Strong communication skills for engaging with students, families, and interdisciplinary teams
- Empathy, patience, and a solution-oriented mindset
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct individual assessments to determine students’ mobility and orientation needs
- Develop, implement, and monitor tailored instructional plans
- Teach concepts such as environmental awareness, route planning, cane techniques, and safe travel skills both on campus and within community settings
- Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and families to support student development and transition planning
- Maintain clear records, progress notes, and documentation in accordance with school procedures
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute expertise to enhance the overall educational experience for visually impaired students
