Orientation & Mobility Specialist in Aptos, CA

You'll collaborate with a dedicated team of educators and specialists, providing assessment, personalized instruction, and advocacy to empower students in their academic and daily life journeys.

Desired Qualifications:

• Valid OMS or Orientation and Mobility Specialist certification
• Demonstrated experience working with students in an educational setting
• Comprehensive knowledge of mobility techniques, assistive technology, and individualized education plans (IEPs)
• Strong communication skills for engaging with students, families, and interdisciplinary teams
• Empathy, patience, and a solution-oriented mindset

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct individual assessments to determine students’ mobility and orientation needs
• Develop, implement, and monitor tailored instructional plans
• Teach concepts such as environmental awareness, route planning, cane techniques, and safe travel skills both on campus and within community settings
• Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and families to support student development and transition planning
• Maintain clear records, progress notes, and documentation in accordance with school procedures
• Participate in IEP meetings and contribute expertise to enhance the overall educational experience for visually impaired students
