Starting August 3, 2026, and continuing through May 28, 2027, your expertise will be valued and your skills put to important use, supporting a region with a critical need for qualified Orientation and Mobility Specialists.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Active Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) Certification required
- AVCREP Certification or an equivalent credential
- Familiarity with school-based services and student-centered mobility programs
- Demonstrated experience supporting visually impaired students, tailoring mobility strategies for a variety of age groups
- Must complete Texas fingerprinting and credentialing quickly, if not previously done
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills
Role Responsibilities:
- Design and implement individualized orientation and mobility programs for students
- Assess and document each student’s strengths and needs
- Collaborate with teachers, families, and support staff to promote student success
- Provide on-site and, if necessary, community-based instruction
- Adapt orientation techniques for students with diverse learning and physical profiles
- Travel within assigned schools as needed (number of schools to be determined)
- Maintain accurate records and follow district and state guidelines
