What you’ll bring:
- Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
- Experience or training working with students in school settings
- Familiarity with individualized education plan (IEP) processes and documentation
- Ability to conduct comprehensive orientation and mobility assessments
- Excellent communication skills with students, staff, and families
- A collaborative approach to working as part of a multidisciplinary team
Key responsibilities:
- Assess students’ orientation and mobility needs, developing individualized goals and interventions
- Deliver direct O&M instruction to students, teaching travel skills, use of canes, and navigation in various environments
- Consult with educators and families to ensure students’ needs are met within school routines and transitions
- Participate in IEP meetings, providing expertise on mobility goals and recommendations
- Document progress, maintain records, and adjust instruction as needed
- Ensure student safety during instruction, modeling and reinforcing appropriate techniques
- Stay current with best practices and professional development in the field
