An exciting contract opportunity is available for a dedicated Orientation and Mobility Specialist. This part-time role focuses on delivering essential services to a student with complex needs in a supportive home environment for the duration of the school year. The position involves two 40-minute sessions each week, providing flexibility in scheduling.

Your expertise will directly impact the student’s independence, helping them achieve specific orientation and mobility goals within their indoor environment. The primary objective centers on supporting the student in using spatial and positional concepts to navigate and identify features in the home, fostering increased confidence and autonomy.

Key Requirements:

• Current endorsement as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
• Experience working with students who have complex needs
• Familiarity with individualized education goals and the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC)
• Strong understanding of spatial and positional concepts (e.g., left/right, near/far, in/out, next to)
• Ability to provide creative, adaptive instruction in a home-based setting
• Excellent communication and documentation skills
• Commitment to collaborative, compassionate service

Primary Responsibilities:

• Plan and conduct customized orientation and mobility sessions in the student’s home
• Use targeted instruction to teach spatial and positional awareness for safe navigation
• Document student progress toward O&M goals aligned with educational standards
• Communicate effectively with caregivers and school personnel regarding progress and recommendations
• Adapt teaching strategies to meet the evolving needs of the student
