Shape the future for students with visual impairments while inspiring independence and confidence each day. A contract opportunity is available for an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) to work across elementary, middle, and high schools throughout the district. From August 24th through May 28th, you’ll deliver essential services and evaluations, connecting with students at various educational stages and helping them navigate a world of possibilities.

What you’ll bring:

  • National certification from ACVREP (Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialist/COMS)
  • Experience supporting students who are blind or experiencing vision loss (all ages welcome)
  • The ability to tailor instruction for daily living skills, including the use of guide dogs, canes, Braille literacy, travel safety, and practical life navigation
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work closely with district staff and families
  • Flexibility to travel to multiple school sites within the district
  • Commitment to advocacy, empowerment, and fostering independence

Your role will include:

  • Conducting individual student assessments and creating personalized mobility/independence plans
  • Providing direct instruction in foundational and advanced orientation and mobility techniques
  • Teaching community access skills such as public transportation use, route planning, orientation strategies, and navigating indoor and outdoor environments
  • Supporting students in public and private settings, from the classroom to city streets and beyond
  • Participating in IEP meetings and maintaining thorough documentation
  • Working onsite and collaborating within a district committed to support and professional growth

Full-time, Monday through Friday schedules are available, but alternative schedules may be considered for outstanding candidates who need flexibility.
