Essential Qualifications:

  • Hold current certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS).
  • Demonstrated experience working with students in school settings.
  • Strong understanding of individualized education plans (IEPs) and assessments related to mobility needs.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaboration with educators, families, and support staff.
  • Ability to adapt instructional strategies to meet the needs and goals of diverse learners.
  • Knowledge of current best practices, adaptive equipment, and safety protocols in orientation and mobility training.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive mobility assessments to identify student strengths, needs, and goals.
  • Develop and implement personalized training programs promoting safe, independent travel.
  • Provide direct instruction in orientation and mobility techniques, both classroom-based and in the community.
  • Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams to integrate mobility goals within IEPs.
  • Offer consultation and training to school staff and families on mobility strategies and equipment use.
  • Document progress and maintain clear, organized records in accordance with school and state policies.
